Artist impression of event space

The story so far...

In July 2025, we surveyed community groups about their need for access to a large community gathering space. We heard from 116 community groups, with 83% of them, indicating they have trouble finding a suitable venue in Wyndham with size and space being the biggest barrier, followed by cost.

Additional information collected through this early phase of engagement has informed the development of a concept plan for a community space that could accommodate up to 1,500 people.

To ensure we have reflected the feedback accurately, we are now checking in to make sure we are on the right track.

Click on each of the flashing hotspots below to learn more about what we've incorporated into this very important space for Community.

Share your feedback before 11:59PM Thursday 28 May 2026 via the survey above.

Although Wyndham provides a range of community facilities, there is a shortage of large affordable and flexible multipurpose spaces for larger scale events and gatherings.

This proposed community event space is intended to be a flexible low-cost multipurpose to help fill that gap with:

• hall space that can cater for up to 1,500 guests for events, conventions, gatherings and exhibitions

• kitchen facilities

• amenities

• car parking

The types of activities that the space might be able to accommodate include cultural and religious events and festivals, performances and concerts, community celebrations and gatherings, presentations and awards nights, fundraising, markets, exhibitions and outdoor events.

Through the selection process, various potential sites were considered and assessed against the selection criteria.

Fortitude Drive Reserve, located at the corner of Morris Road and Fortitude Drive was identified as the most suitable site. It will also be in close proximity to the new state-of-the-art athletics facility, play space and picnic open space areas currently under development.

We have allocated approximately 250 car spaces, including accessibility spots.

  • 50 are sealed carpark and
  • A further 200 in an allocated overflow carpark

The allocation of car parking has been considered in accordance with the Planning Scheme Clause 52.06 for a place of assembly, while also considering access to parking across the broader precinct.

This will be further refined as the design progresses.

This space has been designed to be practical and easy to use for a wide variety of community groups.

While it does not include dedicated rooms such as sensory spaces or prayer rooms, there will be sufficient flexible breakout spaces available to support culturally appropriate activities and the diverse needs of users.

We have been referring to the Community Event Space as the "Big Shed" as a project working name. A naming process will be undertaken as part of the project as per Naming Policy.

Refer to the attached policy to learn more.

We will continue to work through the operating model options. Further information will be available as this progresses.

It is hard to provide a firm completion date as there are many factors to consider but our hope is that as once the Design concept is finalised:

  • Design commences - mid 2026
  • Construction starts - mid 2027
  • Ready to open to the community late 2028.
