What did you tell us?
Point Cook dog owners, we want to hear from you!
Since the Wyndham Dog Off Leash Plan was adopted by Council in February, we've been busy planning for new dog off leash areas across our city.
Throughout the development of the plan, Council heard from the community in Point Cook that an additional dog park was needed due to the high number of registered dogs within the area.
What's happened so far?
Earlier this year, we identified Sidney Nolan Reserve as a potential new dog off leash area due to its central location and proximity to registered dogs. Between the 19 April and 30 May, we asked community members for their thoughts on the location to test if a new dog off leash area would suit the reserve.
Community members suggested that Sidney Nolan Reserve would be too small and narrow for a dog off leash area. Feedback received also highlighted how the reserve is currently well utilised by young families, older residents and as a walk to school pick up point and a dog off leash area would disrupt this.
We've listened to all feedback and are proposing a new off-leash area at The Strand Park, Point Cook.
You can read how we have addressed all feedback received from the Sidney Nolan engagement process via our Engagement Report.
Where is the new location?
The Strand Park is bordered by Boardwalk Boulevard and The Strand in Point Cook.
The park was selected after research was undertaken into the most suitable area in Point Cook. Benefits of this park compared to our previous selected location include:
- It is a larger reserve with more space for a dog off leash area
- The dog off leash area will not overwhelm the reserve
- There is less impact on the landscaping and amenity of the reserve
- There is greater separation to residential housing
- There is a larger distance between the playground and the proposed dog off leash area
- There is more parking available
