Wyndham Portfolio Advisory Committees

Overview

During the community engagement process for the Wyndham 2040 Community Vision refresh, you told us you want to be more involved in Council’s decision-making – we want that too and are making it easier for you to do just that. Council delivers a range of programs and initiatives that contribute to the delivery of the Council Plan 2021-25 and ultimately the Wyndham 2040 Community Vision.

We are now looking to establish five Portfolio Advisory Committees made up of community members and individuals with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the area for each portfolio. These committees will provide support and advice on a range of strategies and policies that contribute to making Wyndham a great place to live, work and play. The committees will support the delivery of Council’s strategic objectives as described in the Council Plan 2021-25. Each Portfolio Advisory Committee is chaired by a Wyndham City Councillor.

This Expression of Interest (EOI) is open to everyone and we are committed to making sure membership represents the diversity of Wyndham. Women, Indigenous people, people with disability, young people, LGBTIQ+ people and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

EOIs are welcome and will close on the 17 December 2021.

The five Portfolio Advisory Committees we are seeking EOIs for, are:

Develop strategies to capitalise on Wyndham’s natural assets and local attractions to raise the municipality’s profile and visitor economy.

Celebrate the many tourism attractions Wyndham has to offer, while exploring ways we can continue to attract visitors and businesses to the region.

Portfolio holder – Cr Heather Marcus

Embrace ways to respect, preserve and protect our local environment, including renewable energy, recycling, habitat conservation, waste and water conservation practices and commitment to combatting climate change.

Collaborate with the community, regional groups, business and government agencies to achieve consistent and broad reaching environmental improvements that will provide benefits to Wyndham and the surrounding area.

Portfolio holder – Cr Robert Szatkowski

Contribute to a better understanding of the diverse learning needs of residents in Wyndham.

Support learning, sharing, building skills and knowledge.

Create learning environments that promote civic and social participation, fosters thinking and innovation, ensures equity and inclusion, and are localised and place based.

Portfolio holder – Cr Jasmine Hill

Develop placemaking initiatives, new creative hubs, and places and platforms where local artists can grow their practice and community can develop their cultural knowledge.

Create opportunities for local artists, understanding how the local creative industry is developing and providing support for new and emerging creative industry and cultural spaces to flourish.

Engaging with new audiences, creating arts projects that encourage participation and integrating the arts into urban spaces, community events and festivals.

Create place-based vibrancy, participation and character.

Portfolio holder – Cr Marcel Mahfoud

Create more liveable, better designed and planned, and well-connected neighbourhoods through mixed land use, different housing types and greater access to quality public transport.

Establish directions, policies and programs that improve liveability.

Focus on ways to manage growth and ensure that development is sustainable.

Portfolio holder – Cr Josh Gilligan
