Project Background

The community centre was identified in the Wyndham North Precinct Structure in 2014 as one of many community facilities needed to provide vital services to the growing community of Truganina.

In 2021 together with Canvas Projects and Murroch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI) we commenced community engagement, and in response to the aspirations and needs raised, we increased the project scope and budget to include a library lounge. A library lounge is considered a contemporary service model that enables community to access a small collection of books, programs and activities in an efficient and integrated building model. Council also agreed to deliver all key services in a new model in the growth areas.

CICG were awarded the tender for construction and construction commenced in November 2022

Design Story

The new centre has been designed by Canvas Projects who in consultation with the community have created a design that reflects the community’s aspirations and cultural diversity, while also recognising the traditional owners and stories of the area. Research into common themes in textiles, shapes and symbols has led to a design that embraces, supports and encourages a place for all.
