Background

The Manor Lakes North Family Centre (interim name) located at 84 Holyoake Parade, is planned to be constructed in 2022 and operational by early 2023.

The centre will support the delivery of early years services including;

  • three and four year old kindergarten
  • a toy library
  • maternal and child health services; and
  • allied health and other family services.

The facility is part of the delivery of a range of community infrastructure as identified in the Manor Lakes Precinct Structure Plan 2012 to service the community now and into the future.

The centre needs a name and we would love to hear your thoughts on the options provided.

Introducing Manor Lakes Family Centre's proposed name as voted by you!

For over five weeks' we provided you with an opportunity to vote for your favourite name for the Manor Lakes North Family Centre. The votes were counted and the preferred name was endorsed at the July Council Meeting.

We are excited to share with you the preferred name for the Manor Lakes Community Centre, as voted by you:

  • Marna Family Centre

    A traditional Aboriginal name proposed by the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners meaning hand. Hands are for healing, hugging and holding. It takes our hands and many hands to be supported to help us to grow and prosper.


Public exhibition of preferred name

The proposed name of Marna Family Centre will be out for public exhibition for the mandatory 30 day period as per Geographic Naming Victoria's statutory process.

The proposed name complies with Section Two: Naming Principles, and in particular Principle E – Recognition and use of Traditional Owner languages in naming and Section Four: Features in the Naming Rules for Places in Victoria 2022. These naming rules are the statutory requirements allowed for under the Geographic Place Names Act 1998.

You can provide feedback on the name during the public exhibition period.

The 30 day period will commence on Monday 1 August and close at 11:59PM Tuesday 30 August, 2022.

  • Next steps

    • We will review and consider any submissions in line with Wyndham's Geographic Naming Policy (refer to document library).
    • The outcomes of the public exhibition period will go before the September Council Meeting.
    • The preferred name will go to Geographic Naming Victoria (GNV) for final approval.
